Botswana Insurance Company is one of the country's oldest insurers, incorporated in 1975 as a partnership between the Botswana Development Corporation and the London broker J.H. Minet. Since 1991 it has concentrated on short-term insurance: personal, commercial and specialised cover.
BIC is controlled by Teledimo and, since 2016, half-owned through Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited, which is listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange. It was the first insurer in Botswana to be awarded a GCR claims-paying rating of AA-(BW), and in 2021 it was named Best General Insurer in Botswana by Global Banking and Finance Review.
