Botswana Life describes itself as the country's longest-serving home-grown life insurer. Its roots go back to 1975 and the first life policy sold in Botswana in 1977, and it became a separate company in 1991.
It is wholly owned by Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited, listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange since 1991 and a member of SanlamAllianz. Botswana Life has more than 300,000 policies, pays over 11,000 pensions a month, and NBFIRA figures reported in 2020 put its share of the life market at well over half.
